The Melton cemetery was established in January 1887 by Madison McKinley Melton. On January 11, 1887, the infant Of J. D. and Sarah Melton Moore was buried on this site. On January 13. 1887. Sarah Melton Moore was buried here.

All of the meltons from Winn Parish are descendants of Madison Melton. he married Susan Caroline Swain in July, 1849 in Marion County, Georgia And moved to Winn Parish and homesteaded near this site in 1859. to their union, eight children were born. these were Sarah(b. 1851) (married J. D. Moore), Runion ( 1854), Elbert Madison "Mac" (1856), William Derrell (1858),James Edger (1861). Marion Monro (1864), Emma E (1868)
(married Isaac Wise). and Anna Melinda (1871) (married Ollie Till).

• The annual Melton Family Reunion is held at the cemetery each year on the Saturday before the third Sunday in May. This year it will be on Sat May 18 2013
