Posted by: Rusty Melton Great Job! I've had the chance to show my co-workers what a great place we have for our loved ones and where our future resting place will be. I was talking with Wayne Melton earlier and he commented on the good job you've done, Thanks I'll tell others! I haven'nt had a chance to get back up there since the reunion, but hope to in the near future...I've got to post the grave sites on the board and I'll call you when I'm in the area. Rusty
Posted by: Howard C. Melton My family line comes from William Preston Melton, one of Madison McKinney Melton's younger brothers. Their father was Elbert Melton and his father was McKinney Melton. I have located a will of Hinchen Melton, who died in late 1805 and the will was probated in early 1806 in Edgefield S.C. where Elbert was born in 1800. I have real estate records with McKinney being there in the early 1800's before he obtained land in Twiggs Co. GA. Hinchen's wife was Susannah McKinney Melton. There were no children listed on the will. I am assuming that McKinney Melton was the son of Hinchen and Susannah McKinney Melton, based on name association only. Other possible male children were Kinchen and Matthew. Do you have any records or oral history to confirm these relationships and any help on determining who Hinchen Melton's father was? Thank you for your assistance. Cousin Howard

My aunt, Libby Hubbard, had a friend that I know only as Sunshine....do you know her? My aunt says she has called her Sunshine for so long, she doesn't know if she has another name. We have often wondered about her. I have photos of my brother & I with her that were taken in the late 40s or early 50s. Thanks, Shirley

Posted by: Janet Lynn Melton Howard: I have just been provided with a geneology record, the results of 30 years of research compiled by Oberia G. Price. In this book, "Hinchen" is written as "Kinchen", who was the son of Nathan Melton, Sr. and Susannah McKinney Carter. Their children were: Susannah (DOB ?); William (DOB: 1761, who served in the Revolutionary War; Nancy (DOB ?); Neomi, born 1768; Thomas, born 1769; Robert, born 1770; Kinchen and Nathan, Jr. I hope this is of some help to you.
Posted by: Janet Lynn Melton Shurley: The book I mentioned to Howard includes a Sunshine Melton who was born July 6, 1925 and married Vergil Taylor. There are a number of pictures of her in the book. I have not verified all of the information in this compilation since I have just come into possession of it, but if this is the person to whom you refer, more information is available.

Hello Meltons, I'm looking for my grandfather, Donnel/ Donald Ray Melton. He was station in CA in the Marines on 9-24-53. This date was the yr that dad, Donald Ray Melton was born. Posted by: Carol Guynes Thank you for your wonderful record keeping and the time and care to publish it. I am now old enough to understand how and why such records are important. Not knowing much of my family history (and living way out here in Calif.), I am trying to reconstuct what little I know from a favorite uncle to get a better idea of heritage and roots. With the help of your site plus the Liberty Chapel site plus the Guynes cemetary postings, I have found more than I thought possible. I want to thank you for giving me so much hope at the beginning of my journey. I hope to be making a trip to the area soon. Thanks, Carol Guynes P.S. My favorite uncle (cousin really) is Raleigh Guynes (not Ralph), son of Marion Dewitt, brother of Raymond. Marion Dewitt is the son of George R who is the son of J.M Guynes. For the record, Raleigh (who is now 77) married Jeanette Golus and they have 4 children. My father is George Barron (Buck) Guynes, son of George Dewey, who is the second son of George R and brother to Marion Dewitt. I am the first of George Barron's 2 daughters from his first marriage to Lorraine Jordan of McComb, Mississippi. And yes, I am collecting this all up into some software or other as soon as I get more time to look. :-)
Posted by: Carol Guynes P.P.S. And if anyone knows anyone I can talk to in the area, or other people or sources for some of the Guynes history, I would be very grateful for the help.

Posted by: Melba Ferguson Simmons I am researching my ancestry and came across your website looking for the Fergusons and Colliers. You have James Monroe Ferguson (my grandfather) parents incorrect. James Monroe Ferguson was born in Gadsden County, Florida in 1848 and died 1936. His parents were James Ferguson and Nancy Campbell. He als had Ferguson half-brothers by his father's firsh wife. Sarah Maloy (or Malloy) and came from NC. John McLoid Ferguson was also known as John M. Ferguson and was called "Jack." I am trying in to tie the relationship of "Jack" to my grandfather, James Monroe Ferguson. He was probably a brother of half-brother. I also had an aunt, Annie Lee Ferguson, (daughter of James Monroe Ferguson) who was married to Marion F. Collier, a descendant of Rev. Thomas S. Collier. If you have any information to help in my research, please email me. Thanks

Posted by: Glenn Davis This is very nice, and a worthwhile venture. I married Judy Beth Melton, and have been in the family for 27+ years. Judy is the daughter of William Huey Melton, s/o Riley Clinton Melton. In honor of my wife, her family, and Johnny Edgar Moore, I have pledged to help keep the Melton Cemetery looking nice as long as I can draw air. I loved my fahter in law, Huey, dearly, and can sense his watching over me as I work around the cemetery each time. It is great to come together each year, and take time to remember those loved ones that have passed before us. One day, it would be nice to dedicate one of our reunions to Johhny Moore for all the contributions, and constant vigil he has kept up over the years. Thanks, glenn.
Posted by: DONNIE MELTON I am from the Melton family who came to Union County North Carolina some time around 1759. It was according to Grand parents because of a grant of 2 square miles from the king of england that the 2 brothers James and John came here. My immediate family has 10 brothers and sisters in it and oddly enough 2 of my brothers are named Wayne and Jerry Melton.
