Website updates

Filed under: Site News — Administrator @ 10:52 AM

I am still working on updating the photos but I have updated the entire site with a better menu system.

The family pages have been removed and in its place is a online database. You can now generate many custom charts as well print reports on how you are related to someone else just set your ancestor as a favorite and then go to another person and you will see a option to create the relationship chart in the chart menu.

If you have data to add or edits you would like to make please request an account on the system.

Melton Reunion 2010

Filed under: Comments — Administrator @ 2:33 AM

The annual Melton Reunion will be Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Melton Cemetery located on Melton Cemetery Road, West of Highway 167,approximately 6 miles south of Wnnfield. The Board of Directors will meet at 10:00 AM, a business meeting will be at 11:00 AM, followed by a devotional in the Chapel and at 12:00 noon everyone will enjoy a delicious luncheon on the grounds furnished by those in attendance.

Friends and family are urged to attend. We look forward to the fellowship of relatives who come from far and wide, many of which we only see at this time of the year. At this time we honor the memory of loved ones buried as far back as 1887 and make plans for taking care of our beautiful country cemetery for future generations. This is possible through the generous donations made by our members through the years.

Family tree info on William Harper

Hi all

My great grandmother was Samira Louise Tyson, sister of Laurette Tyson Melton.  I noticed in your family tree that you have William S Harper married to Amanda Oglesby.  I too found that info but do not believe it is the same William Harper that had been married to my Samira Louise.  I think that the WH married to Amanda was born in 1869 in LA whereas my great grandfather was born in Texas in 1851 and died there in 1924.  I have no further info on him or his family, so if anyone out there has some input I would appreciate it.  Will Harper and Samira (Sallie) had three children before she died. The oldest Will Harper Jr sent his dad military postcards in the early 1920′s in Texas. He also lived part of his later years with Laura’s daughter Mollie.  Any of Mollie’s descendants out there with any family history on the early childhood years of Will, his sister Alma or brother Sam?  Again thanks for having this blog available, hope to hear from someone soon

William James (Jim)Melton

Filed under: Comments,Family History — William James Melton @ 10:49 AM

The Melton Cemetery web page is great. My grandparents were William (Bud) Jefferson Melton and Iva Pearl Howell/Melton. I am William James (Jimmie)Melton now 58 years old, and I still can remember the first graveyard working as a youngster, where we enjoyed great pot lucks or picnic style feeds after racking leaves and cleaning the Melton Cemetery. I can remember a mule drawn wagon from which a preacher gave a pre-lunch prayer.

Jodie Archie Melton

I am looking for information about my Great Grandfather. His name was Jodie Archie Melton. I am not certain where he was born, but probably it was Georgia or Alabama. He lived in Cullman, Alabama part of his life. I am told he died when he was hit by a train in Atlanta. All of this information is questionable, but it is all I have to go on. I know he married Fannie Watts and they had two daughters. I have his date of death as January 9, 1908. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who might know information about him.

John Melton

Filed under: Request — mmelton @ 2:20 PM

Is it possible that my great/great grandfather John Melton is a ralative of yours. He was born in Chester,South Carolina and this is where he married and made his family. If we are the same family line I would be very delighted to know, because my grandfather(RICHARD), recently died and I am trying to retrace my past. BUT IF YOUR FAMILY IS NOT FROM SOUTH CAROLINA, I AM AFRAID THAT WE MAY MAY BE CHASING A GHOST.
